Established in 2013, the center capitalizes on the international experience of a team of world class researchers and professionals with an industrial and academic background. Its focus is the development of new generations of photovoltaic cells, modules, and balance of system (BOS) components.

The Photovoltaics-Laboratory (PV-Lab) of IMT,
founded in 1984 has pioneered several new processes for the preparation of thin-film silicon, such as the introduction of very high frequency (VHF) plasma deposition and microcrystalline silicon as an efficient photovoltaic material. The PVlab has a strong tradition of technology transfer and triggered the creation of several companies or business sectors of existing companies.
